Watermelon Juice

Its summer and as I told we just gulp in a lot of liquids to manage the heat. Watermelon is one of my favourite fruits and during summer I always stock up this fruit and eat as much as I can. This a simple juice recipe with a twist. M too likes it.

Gobi Masala/Cauliflower Masala stir Fry/Cauliflower piratal

I love cauliflower. When I was a kid, I use to ask Amma not to cook cauliflower on weekdays, as I will not be able to slowly relish the taste. In weekends there were usually brunches as Appa would sweat out with his own chores.

Punjabi Rajma Masala/Red Kidney Beans Curry

Honestly I m not a big fan of Rajma. Thatz b’coz I had some kitchen experiments with Rajma that went wrong! With me stuff works like that. So I never bothered to cook these beans at home although M used to occasionally order this when we go to restaurants.

Paneer Bhurji/Scrambled cottage cheese with herbs and spices

I like Paneer a lot; well actually I like all cheese varieties. As a vegetarian, my options are limited to vegetables but Paneer is one of the ingredients that can substitute the meat in some of the recipes. Paneer is a versatile ingredient that absorbs all the flavours added.

Masala Chaas – Summer special-Gujarati Spiced Buttermilk

The summer has already begun and I make some sort of cold beverages everyday that subdues the heat. But I make it a point that it is fresh and natural. The easiest is the buttermilk which is always at hand. I have 2 versions of spiced buttermilk, one is south Indian and the other is north Indian. Today I made this north Indian version Masala Chaas. It was creamy, cooling and refreshing.

Milagu Thattu Vadai/Anjaneyar Vadai

I had this vadai for the first time in nanganallur anjaneyar koil. It was crispy and very tasty. In Coimbatore they use ulunthu vadai to make maalai for anjaneyar. But Chennai they make it more like a thattai and I liked it. So tried it and I should say it came out pretty well for the first time. I would call it a version between ulunthu vadai and thattai.

Rhengan Reveya/Baby Brinjal Curry-No Onion No Garlic Recipe

I have a liking or what M calls an obsession for Brinjal. I eat anything and everything thatz made out of brinjal. I’m sure you‘ll come across a lot of brinjal recipes in this blog in future. Now about this recipe, I saw this in a TV show and the inert liking for aubergines forced me to try and it was an instant hit with M as it has a peanut based sauce (though he doesn’t like brinjals!!!).It’s a Gujarati dish and all I can say is “It’s YUMM”.

Ribbon Pakoda/Nada Pakoda/Ola Pakoda

M always demands some dry snacks with tea in the evening. Usually he settles down with store bought goodness’. But now I am more interested in making healthy homemade snacks (ahem! yeah..yeah.. I wanna add posts!!).So I m on a mission to try dry crisps every month.

Cantonese Egg Fried Rice

I am a big fan of Kylie Kwong. I can sit all day just watching her shows, though most of what she cooks includes meat, I just love to watch how she chops and cooks like a breeze. I should admit that she was my inspiration to cook Chinese (all my life thinking all Chinese food are cooked in lard..How silly am I?) vegetarian.

Ven Pongal

Ven pongal is one of the standard breakfast recipes in most of the south Indian homes. I m not a great fan of Pongal but M likes it. So I make it once in a while. I make sambar or chutney as side dish. The recipe takes some time for perfection, but once you have got it, you‘ll master the dish.

Brinjal Capsicum Stir fry/Kathirikkai koda milagai poriyal

This is a simple stir fry that goes well with rice. Brinjal is one of my favorite vegetable, but M doesn’t like it (thatz how the world goes on, ain’t it?).So I try to incorporate it into sabzis in a way that he doesn’t find it or else it will taste so good that he doesn’t mind about it!!!He likes shimla mirch plus adding the spices, made him nod yes for the dish!!

Onion Tomato Chutney

Yesterday I prepared idly batter and due to weather conditions here it doesn’t ferment quickly. It takes quite some time. The only reason I prepare dosa batter is to keep it handy for my lazy nights and today it was the same story and  the batter was like yet-to -ferment a bit-but a sour-chutney -will-do! category.
