Strawberry-Pomegranate Sorbet

Strawberries are everywhere. These cute little berries always are the centre of attraction in any fruit shop. I can never stop myself from buying even if I just walk away without taking a look they scream out loud and I can hear them calling so I end up buying cartons of these and simply keep nibbling it all the time.  This combination is somehow interesting and tantalizing. The color is simply rich and sure is a kid pleaser.

Strawberry Milkshake

Its time to say good bye to the nerve chilling winter and welcome the sunshine. The winter clothes have already gone back to their residential closet. My way of bringing in the season to the house is to start with super cool milkshakes and as the sun hits high, I gradually move to fresh juices.

Jigarthanda-Madurai Special

Jigarthanda is a famous drink in Madurai, city in southern part of India. The origin of this drink dates back to the late 18th century when Muslim settlers landed in India and used this as a coolant/thirst quencher. The name means ‘cools the heart’.

Black Grape Granita

Granita is a great way to eat fruits with their natural flavors especially to cope up with the scorching summer; granitas always come to your rescue. Granitas can be made with almost all types of fruits. When the fruits are fresh my M goes overboard and buys in kgs for 2! You know what I mean!!

Fresh Peach Juice

It’s still very summery here! The stone fruits are in season and so M picked some fresh peaches last weekend. But as usual the fruits bag was pushed to the back end of the refrigerator. But i should say they kept well for the week and this morning i noticed the bag as there were only few veggies clinging in there.

Cantaloupe Popsicle/ Lollisticks

When i was a kid i used to wait for the vacations to start mainly because of 2 reasons. One was to go to my grandma’s place and the other was, i get to eat as much cold stuffs as i can. My maternal grandma and my uncle (ma’s elder bro) got me anything and everything i wanted and also i could call them for rescue with just a wink of an eye if my Ma stops me from eating anything so-called-not-so-health-friendly.

Zapota/Sapodilla/Chikku Milkshake

Yet another drinks post. yes.. I often make cool fresh drinks in summer..well almost every day. Milkshakes are M’s favorite. I like juices that are thin and watery. He loves the thick and creamy ones. Especially this Chikku milkshake. We both love the fruit, its grainy texture and rich sweet taste. Zapota is rich in calories, antioxidant tannins and dietary fiber. Milkshake are best source of energy for kids who are fuzzy eaters.

Neer Mor/South Indian Spiced Buttermilk

Buttermilk is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to tackle the heat in summer. I have already given the spiced buttermilk/Masala Chaas recipe from north India. This is the south Indian version which I grew up drinking. Its luscious and thirst quenching.

Masala Chaas – Summer special-Gujarati Spiced Buttermilk

The summer has already begun and I make some sort of cold beverages everyday that subdues the heat. But I make it a point that it is fresh and natural. The easiest is the buttermilk which is always at hand. I have 2 versions of spiced buttermilk, one is south Indian and the other is north Indian. Today I made this north Indian version Masala Chaas. It was creamy, cooling and refreshing.
