Jhalmuri

Jhalmuri is a snack/chat item made using puffed rice. Jhalmuri is a street snack of Bengal like Beach pori in Tamil Nadu. One day i was watching ‘eat street’ in Fox life. They featured about a Briton Jhalmuri seller who was addicted to this Jhalmuri when he visited Kolkata and later took it as a business. The way he made the Jhalmuri was mesmerizing and it made me drool over and urged me to try it. So here it is.

Ingredients:
Puffed Rice-5 cups
Tomato-1 medium, finely chopped
Onion-1 large, finely chopped
Cucumber-1 medium-finely chopped
Coconut-1/2 cup, cut into thin pieces
Ginger-1 tbsp, finely chopped
Coriander leaves-1/4 cup, finely chopped
Roasted Peanuts-1/4 cup
Roasted Channa dal/Channa dal Namkeen-1/4 cup(here)
Nylon Sev-1/2 cup
Sweet chutney/tamarind chutney-1 tbsp(here)
Garam Masala powder-1 tsp
Red chilli powder-3/4 tsp
Lemon juice-1 tsp
Mustard Oil/Coconut oil-1 tbsp (optional)

How it Happened:
1. Prep all your ingredients like chopping the veggies and roasting the peanuts.Set them ready.
2. In a big mixing bowl, add all the ingredients except the coconut oil and mix well until the spice coat the veggies and puffed rice.

3. Finally add the oil and mix well. Serve immediately.
Notes:
*You can remove the skin of the peanuts
* You can play around with whatever goes in the mix as per your wish.
*Originally mustard oil is used to enhance the flavour in Bengal. I am not used to that flavour so i used coconut oil to round off the flavours. You can avoid it for a healthy version.

* Serve immediately for crunchy bites. As you know puffed rice and other veggies tend to loose the crunchiness when kept for long after mixing.
* I removed the seeds of tomato and cucumber as they tend to make the mix very soggy.
